's like a ping-pong, it's bad, it's cold, what's going on? >> tennessee and kentucky have seen the worst of it. we've had about three tornado reports. we've had about 195 total updated for you live there. newly notice the concentration overnight had been through arkansas, louisiana and the ohio river. abdomen storms are starting to plow their way right across kentucky and especially tennessee. these are all tornado warnings heading right over nashville. thankfully, those storms have weakened a little bit over louisville and bowling green but those are going to slide over the east coast today. an area of greater concern, the area of yellow today, everyone here has a chance of severe storms, damaging winds. it will only last about 30 minutes or less but when that line of storms comes through you'll feel it and you'll want to seek shelter. atlanta, heading through pittsburgh, west virginia, and then afternoon traveling through much of the carolinas. again, all eyes, best chance of tornadoes is in the state of tennessee. thankfully, no fatalities overnight. we'll talk about the snowstorm goi

. breaking news, tornado warnings across central tennessee and tornado warnings in central kentucky as well. >> a quick-moving system. the line moving from indiana to louisiana, the bulk of the activity and tornado warning out of middle tennessee. ntsu did take to twitter to warning students to take cover. if i take you out, you can tell how large of an area you can see is dealing with the severe weather. we will continue to see this throughout the day, warning after warning after the line of storms moves out ahead of the cold front this is a major wind event. about 200 wind events reported today. only three tornado warnings reported -- excuse me. tornadoes touching down. south bend, look at the rainfall totals, that's the other side of the storm. the month of january, what we expect for the averafternoon to. the line has showed down, we'll see instability kick up through the afternoon and the storms should move faster, in fact, toward atlanta as we warm up, we'll talk about the severe weather threat, and toward late evening hours, we'll talk mid-atlantic region, straight down through the s

in the tennessee valley with some freezing rain and rain mixing in in southern kentucky and down in tennessee. the very dry air in place with temperatures down in the single digits now into williamsport. 13 in pittsburgh and around here bell our temperatures in the low to mid-teens in many areas. upper teens and even 20 at reagan national. but 12 jermantown and 12 millersville and northern anne arundel county. 12 dumfries right now. 13 at dulles. another very cold morning. waldorf at 17 and outside on our michael & son weather camera, great visibility. with cloudy skies and we have 20 feeling like 9. one thing i want to point out. i love the dew point. it's such a true measure of how much moisture is in the air. when you have a 20-degree spread that's a lot to overcome for moisture. so when it starts to snow that's going to have to evaporate for verga and then after a few hours it will reach the ground. arrives this afternoon and looks like 1 to 3 and really more like 1 for much of the region. the 3 inches, that's probably more toward the maryland and pennsylvania border and out in western ma

and dangerous storm is moving from the south. it hit eastern missouri arkansas and tennessee. homes were damaged trees and power lines knocked down thousands lost power. >> the front stretches from texas to the northeast. one man has been killed in nashville and the storm also left its mark across indiana. reporter jessica hayes of wish-tv is in indianapolis. >> reporter: we're on the north side of indianapolis. this area is usually busy with computers and shoppers but straight line winds brought down a couple different power lines, one the worst damage you can see right here snapped off at the base and landed on top of this canopy of this costco gas station so this is closed. you did see damages on the west side of minneapolis, winds up to 60 miles an hour and if you go to the southern part of the state south of bloomington, indiana, a possible tornado touched down there, up to 20 homes have damage and the national weather service is on their way to determine if this, in fact, was a tornado. here we've got power crews are going to have a busy day here and around

. previously problems in tennessee as this very cold air is all the way down there. but this has been coating bridges. they have had hundreds of accidents and quite a mess. and they're looking forward to the clipper clipping on out of north carolina because they're going to be stuck in the deep freeze. we are real cold. 21 degrees here. and it'sage 6:00. we barely got up to 21 degrees today. it's 18 in baltimore, gaithersburg, and at dulles. 19 at winchester and martinsburg. hagerstown at 18, too. i saw some wet spots out there. they could be in untreated areas, mighty slippery later tonight and first thing tomorrow morning. we're likely going to be spending most of the night in the teens. keep in mind the clouds are going to clear out. i think these temperatures could drop just a little bit more. so we worry about slippery spots and expect those testimonies in the suburbs to -- temperatures in the suburbs to drop to the lower teens. tomorrow a warm-up, 33 degrees. we'll get above freezing for the first time in a few days. and the sunshine will do a number on that snow pack. notice the wind n

's going on. heavy storms, tornadic thunderstorms across portions of alabama, georgia, eastern tennessee. this is a severe thunderstorm watch just to our west and southwest till 4:00. but all of this water is coming off to the north and the east. so it's not out of the question that one, maybe two inches of rain could fall if we get under some of these heavy downpours which looks like they'll stay generally west of us for the afternoon and evening hours. this may be closer to the metro than this model is depicting but we're going to watch it nonetheless because the storms will move northeast. the line will move toward us. by midnight, 1:00 it's over us. then we'll push it away as we get toward the morning rush hour with snows returning into the mountains. the cold air comes back. we're going to watch that for thursday and friday morning, a little disturbance is going to come across. that could flow some flurries or even light snow our way. after tonight well very to watch for friday morning to see if we have any issues. going to be some late thunderstorms. tonight we're into the 30s and

in tennessee. temperatures warmed up now. so we're not so much dealing with too many problems in areas around nashville and also into louisville and lexington. much of west virginia is warming up. they're mostly dealing with rain. travel on the east coast today, the airports will be a mess in all areas of the northeast today, especially new york city up into boston. philadelphia airports dealing with rain. a lot of rain later today especially in areas of georgia. some rain will push into virginia and washington, d.c., and baltimore and maryland areas. as far as the total accumulations go with this storm, we're mostly looking at a three to five inch event across new england. south coast of new england will be dealing mostly with sleet and mixing in with a little snow. only zero to an inch. and in areas of central connecticut, probably two to three inches. four inches across the catskills. again, not a blockbuster snow event. the timing of this on a full day of work and school for so many is what is causing it to be such a headache. >> thank you, bill. >>> last night new york became the favorit
